Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart will be an addition to the BBC’s Euro 2024 punditry team this summer as he begins life post-retirement.

Hart, 37, has been snapped up by the Beeb to work with Gary Lineker and Co in Germany after announcing he’s hanging up his gloves at the end of the season.

There has also been interest from Premier League Productions to work for them next season as they beam games around the world.

EDERSON’S MESSY EYE

Ederson’s eye was described by those in the dressing room as ‘a mess’ after he was taken off during Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Tottenham down in the capital.

The goalkeeper wasn’t too happy with the decision to substitute him, flying into a fit of rage on the bench, but is thought to have understood the call later on. Footage has since emerged of a panicked Mateo Kovacic demanding quick treatment for Ederson as he lay on the floor.

CITY TO RETAIN KIT FOR TITLE DECIDER

City’s new kit ahead of next season was released on Thursday morning, with the manufacturers Puma saying it is inspired by the regional dialling code, 0161.

Guardiola’s stars will not wear the strip for Sunday’s game, in much the same way as the final day last season when they were sporting the commemorative Colin Bell shirts.

That launch day was a record-breaker, 58 per cent up on the previous year, and club execs will be hoping for similar this time around.

Marco Mueller, Puma’s Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel, said: ‘This kit personifies exactly what it means to be a Mancunian and a Manchester City fan.

‘This is our sixth home jersey with Manchester City and we’re proud to showcase what it means to be Mancunian through the design of the shirt.’

CORPORATE SHAKERS ON THE MOVE

The expansion of the Etihad Stadium’s North Stand is continuing apace with construction work now taking place inside the ground as well as out.

Those in hospitality seats at the top of the existing second tier, housed in executive boxes, are being relocated to different areas of the stadium.

Most of the boxes, which run along the stand, are for players’ families and friends, with some agencies up there as well.

The majority have been moved to boxes in the East Stand, which will continue next season as the development takes shape ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

BIG DATA? PEP’S OLD SCHOOL

Remarkably, City went within a goal of Arsenal at Tottenham. They were way behind the Gunners after their scoreless draw at the end of March but have hit the net 30 times in the eight Premier League victories since.

It meant goal difference could well have come into play on the final day had Ortega not stood tall against Heung-min Son in what might be the defining moment of this absorbing title race.

As it is, City now only need victory over West Ham to confirm a fourth straight crown. And the catching up on goals brought to mind Guardiola’s general attitude towards statistics and ‘big data’.

Pep Guardiola is not as obsessed by 'big data' as some may think and still uses the eye test

There is no getting away from the fact that he is a meticulous operator but Guardiola also possesses that old school way of management by using the eye test as a significant factor in his coaching methods. Certainly more so than is perceived.

‘All the analysis before and after the game… I pay a little bit of attention but not much,’ he said recently. ‘It gives you an idea of how the team is moving but at the end, sometimes it’s about feeling.

‘Always I’ve said that we’re human beings and human beings have feelings. They are not in the big data. You have to pay attention to the person, the body language, how their mood is. At the end that is better than the big data.’

GUNDOGAN STILL DOING HIS BIT

A repeat of last season’s FA Cup final next week and the hero of that, Ilkay Gundogan, is still very much engaged with Manchester 12 months on.

Gundogan, who skippered City to the Treble and renowned for his charity work in the area, has flown over three Mancunians to Barcelona as part of his link with Community Integrated Care.

They are one of the UK’s largest social charities and Gundogan had the trio take in the Nou Camp and attend Monday’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad.

‘I still feel very connected to the city of Manchester and I’m very happy we could manage to bring them to my new city,’ Gundogan said.

‘I can’t thank Community Integrated Care enough to support me with my projects and make such trips possible.’
